had to deal with anti-tax extremists during the Whisky Rebellion of 1794. Since then, law enforcement
personnel have had to deal with extremists of all types, with beliefs running from racism, radical religious
beliefs, and militant left and right-wing political activism. This training has been developed to acquaint
law enforcement personnel with a variety of extremist causes and groups, its aim is to provide an
awareness that can help an attendee tell the difference between the extremist who poses a potential
threat and those who are nonviolent yet hold extreme beliefs.
TOPICS FOR THIS TRAINING INCLUDE:
¦ A review of the belief systems of right and left wing, special interest, anarchist, and religious extremists, and
how they could pose a threat to officers and the communities they serve.
¦ An examination of the mindset of fundamentalism, extremism, and terrorism.
¦ An exploration of identifiers attributable to malevolent religious groups.
¦ Identifiers applicable to various extremist groups that law enforcement personnel could come into contact with.
¦ A review of case studies where confrontation and conflict has occurred.
¦ Common indicators of extremist beliefs relevant to community and officer safety concerns.
The instructor of this training has researched and worked on and supervised investigations of a variety
of extremist group. He has developed and instructed Terrorism Awareness and Response Training and
Intelligence Gathering for the Terrorist Threat to
developed and designed Extremist Group training for two Florida Criminal Justice Academies. He
has provided training on hate crime, extremist beliefs, and officer and community safety for over 20
years and has been certified to instruct general, legal and human diversity topics to sworn Law
Enforcement, Corrections, and Correction-Probation personnel in the State of
Masters Degree in Training and Human Resource Management.
